The Kahoot alternative
the whole class gets to play 🎉
- The whole class fits in the session again, with nobody left out of the game.
- The bill leaves the dollar and becomes R$ 30/month by Pix — or R$ 25/month on the yearly plan.
- Use stops being just the classroom: workshops, training and meetings get games of their own.
- The school office stops signing student-data forms, because none is collected.
- For a one-off event, the R$ 99 Event Pass solves it without turning into a monthly subscription.
- You give up the public library: there is no ready-made quiz from another teacher to reuse here.
- You lose the apps and the solo study modes between classes (flashcards, homework challenges).
- You lose the name the class already knows — "let's play a Pipo" needs one sentence of explanation.
- If the school already pays for an institutional licence, switching saves nothing.
What changed in Kahoot's free plan
The free plan once took 50 players per session. Verified in July 2026, it sits at 10 players on the personal account and 3 on the work account. It is not a limit you get around by splitting the class: in a room of 35 students, 25 watch a classmate play.
It is that person — teacher, instructor, facilitator — that Pipo's free plan serves: 40 people per session, no card and no expiry date, with 10 live sessions included. It is not a 14-day taster; it is an actual free plan, the way Kahoot's used to be.
How long switching takes
A 15-question quiz is born in Pipo in about 10 minutes: you paste the questions and options into the editor's AI assistant and it hands back the Pipo already built, with speed-based scoring, streak bonus and a 3-2-1 podium. Marking the correct option is the only manual work left.
There is no automatic importer — no tool on the market reads another's format. If you have 40 kahoots in your history, do not try to migrate all 40: start with the three you repeat every term. The rest stay in your Kahoot account, which does not stop existing.
The class does not have to relearn anything
On the players' side, the gesture is identical to what the room already does: open the phone's browser, type a 6-digit code and go in. No app to download, no account to create, no email to hand over — which, in a school, also solves the problem of asking for consent to register a minor.
The difference the class notices is the good one: nobody gets a "room full" in the face for being the 11th to join.
When switching is not worth it
Honesty above conversion: stay on Kahoot if your use depends on the public library of ready-made quizzes, if students study alone through the apps between classes, or if your school already pays an institutional licence — in that case the 10-player limit does not even apply to you, and switching saves nothing.
If your case is the opposite — a big class, a budget in reais, your own content and use that goes from classroom to training and workshops —, the switch pays for itself in the first session.
Questions from people comparing
What is the best free alternative to Kahoot?
To run a real class without paying, Pipo Guru: the free plan takes 40 people per session (against Kahoot's 10), with a scored quiz, streaks and a podium, and the audience joins through the browser installing nothing.
Did Kahoot's free limit really shrink?
Yes: the free plan once allowed 50 players and, verified in July 2026, sits at 10 on a personal account and 3 on a work account. Above that it is a subscription, charged in dollars.
Can I import my old kahoots?
There is no importer — no platform on the market opens another's format. In practice, paste the questions into the editor's AI assistant: a 15-question quiz is ready in about 10 minutes, and only marking the correct option is manual.
Do I have to migrate everything at once?
No, and we do not recommend it. Start with the two or three quizzes you repeat every term and leave the rest where they are — your Kahoot account stays active, with the history intact, while you test.
Will my students need to download an app?
No. They open the phone's browser, type the 6-digit code and play. Since no personal data is asked for, there is also no need for guardian consent to register a minor.
